User Generated Content Policy

1. Overview

This policy governs all content submitted by users to Rents.ie, including rental listings, photos, descriptions, and reports. By submitting content, you agree to comply with these guidelines.

2. Content Standards

All submitted content must:

  • Be accurate, truthful, and not misleading
  • Relate to genuine rental properties available for rent
  • Be your own content or content you have permission to use
  • Comply with all applicable Irish and EU laws
  • Respect the rights and dignity of others

3. Prohibited Content

You may not submit content that:

3.1 Discriminatory Content

Content that discriminates against potential tenants based on protected characteristics is strictly prohibited. See our Anti-Discrimination Policy.

3.2 Fraudulent or Misleading Content

  • Fake listings for properties that don't exist
  • Photos that don't represent the actual property
  • Incorrect pricing, location, or property details
  • Listings for properties you don't have authority to rent
  • Advance fee scams or phishing attempts

3.3 Illegal Content

  • Properties that cannot legally be rented (unlicensed, unsafe, etc.)
  • Solicitation of illegal activities
  • Content that violates intellectual property rights

3.4 Harmful Content

  • Personal attacks, harassment, or threats
  • Hate speech or content promoting violence
  • Spam, malware, or phishing links
  • Content designed to deceive or manipulate

4. Photo Guidelines

Listing photos must:

  • Be of the actual property being advertised
  • Be recent and accurately represent current condition
  • Be photos you own or have permission to use
  • Not contain watermarks from other property sites
  • Not contain personal information (mail, documents, etc.)
  • Not contain inappropriate or offensive content

5. Contact Information

Contact details provided with listings must be genuine and belong to the person authorised to handle enquiries. Using fake or misleading contact information is prohibited.

6. Moderation Process

All submitted content is subject to moderation:

  • Pre-publication Review: Listings are reviewed before going live
  • Automated Filtering: Content is screened for prohibited language
  • User Reports: We investigate reported content promptly
  • Ongoing Monitoring: Published content may be re-reviewed

7. Enforcement

Violations of this policy may result in:

  • Content rejection or removal without notice
  • Warnings to the submitter
  • Temporary or permanent suspension from the platform
  • Reporting to relevant authorities for illegal content

We reserve the right to take action at our sole discretion. Serious or repeated violations will result in permanent bans.

8. Reporting Violations

If you encounter content that violates this policy, please report it using the "Report Listing" feature on any listing page, or email us at reports@rents.ie.

When reporting, please include:

  • The listing URL or ID
  • The reason for your report
  • Any supporting evidence

9. Your Responsibilities

By submitting content, you:

  • Warrant that you have the right to submit the content
  • Grant us a license to display and distribute the content on our platform
  • Accept responsibility for any claims arising from your content
  • Agree to update or remove content that becomes inaccurate

10. Updates to This Policy

We may update this policy at any time. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
